Novum's way of instigating civil war when people take it too seriously.

Clever, but evil.

I'm onto you, Nov. :nono: :yup:

We used to use the Karma when we first got going and for some reason it was disabled, I wasn't in on that discussion. Novum has reactivated the feature. I'm not sure how it's going to pan out long term? We may change the name to something else as Karma seems to hold different significance and meaning for different people/individuals. There tends to be a few dominant views on it...some take it very seriously, others don't pay much attention to it, while some treat it as a joke. There are even people that attempt to weaponise it and use it as a form of abuse if people are willing to be effected by it? :conf:

It's probably best if members express their opinions on the matter in this thread, and maybe some of the older members can share their views and experiences with the Karma feature. Nothing is written in stone and it can be remove as easily as it was restored. I'm sure Novum has thoughts on it which he will share.

So it's just basically a more personalised "thank you" feature, but rating the poster instead of the post?

The karma thing offends me deeply :) I won't explain why because I simply don't want to. If the good folk here decide to keep this inane feature, can I be minus 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 karma points?.

Not a fan of it myself, but take it all with a pinch of salt anyway. Isn't the thank you feature plenty enough on it's own?

I agree, I think have one or the other, there's no need for both - and my vote is for the "thank you" feature, because that allows you to rate the quality of what people say - its function is very clear - rather than rating them as a person, their spiritual worth or whatever "karma" is supposed to measure.

All that will happen with the karma feature is people will up-vote those they like and down-vote those they don't - or they'll completely ignore it. I don't see it as bringing anything positive to the forum and is, at best, superfluous.

To be honest I can't see myself using it much. I love the "thank you" feature, because you can thank the posts you like or agree with. It also stops pointless, one-line posts like "I agree", or "+1", which DIF and other forums I post on/have posted on, are full of.

The karma feature is not something I'm bothered about either way though.

I feel the thank you button is good for agreeing with sentiments.

Karma? Bit tacky maybe?

Pinch of salt I suppose, as already stated.

It was abused then, just like the "thank you" feature.
One is enough.
