'Switzerland’s giant bank UBS has agreed to pay USD 1.5 billion in fines following allegations of rate rigging the interest rates of London Inter-Bank Offered Rate (LIBOR).

"UBS agrees to pay approximately CHF 1.4 billion (USD 1.5 billion) in fines and disgorgement to US, UK and Swiss authorities to resolve LIBOR-related investigations," UBS said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Swiss bank said it would pay USD 1.2 billion to the US Department of Justice and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, USD 260 million to the UK Financial Services Authority and USD 64 million to the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority.'
