The Gnostic Christianity Thread

The word 'Gnostic" means, "to know". More exactly, it means to know the nature of God.

The basic belief is that, humans are immortal souls trapped in the ordinary physical (or material) world. Gnostics believe the world was made by an imperfect spirit. That imperfect spirit is thought to be the same as the God of Abraham- Israel- the God of the Old Testament? So, the God worshipped by orthodox Christanity was the Demiruge himself, according to gnostic Christianity?

Gnostic Christianity had it's own Jesus Christ to, which was quite different from orthodox Christanity. The gnostics believed the serpent in the garden of Eden was none other than Jesus Christ who gave Eve knowledge of good and evil, and immortality.

the battle for your soul within the church

Here is a fantastic opportunity to watch the battle for your soul within the church, point by point. All you have to do is compare Gnostic Christanity to the Bible.

It's like having a ringside seat at a boxing match. You can actually see the points of disagreement and how they arrived at those conclusions.

For example,

The Gnostics believed all matter was evil. Thus, when in the chapter Genesis of the Old Testament it says, "and God created the world and saw it was good", hits in the face of Gnosticism, which considers the creation of the earth and he who created it, evil. because to them, all matter was evil.

The battle continues to the "garden of eden" where God plants two trees in the garden. One of knowledge and one of immortality, and God warned Adam and Eve to not eat of the fruit from both trees. Gnosticism reasoned, only an evil deity would deny Man the right to knowledge of immortality. Thus, the Old Testament deity, Yahweh was regarded as evil to the gnostics.

Time permitting, I will post other examples of this battle for your soul as time goes on.
