static electricity? :O wow, i better watch myself walking through the room...i might set something on fire :coffee: and it took them 75+ years to figure this out?
I don't like to think before I speak.
I like to be just as surprised as everyone else by what comes out of my mouth.

I'd never feel comfortable going up in one of those things, you'd be going up alright, in flames! :O

As far as static electricity is concerned, I'm always giving the cat electric shocks, I've even seen one or two sparks on rare occasions :chuckle: I've blown lots of light bulbs in the past as well, maybe that's more to do with the wiring in the house though.

Most probably it was no accident, but a terror attack.
"The truth must be repeated over and over again,
because error is repeatedly preached among us, not
only by individuals, but by the masses. In periodicals
and cyclopaedias, in schools and universities; every-
where, in fact, error prevails, and is quite easy in the
feeling that it has a decided majority on its side."

There's part of me that thinks the oil cartels have been and do supress hydrogen as a fuel.

Pretty much anyone can make hydrogen if they want to, by passing electricity through water (and then compressing it if need be)
I remember the good old days, when 90+ year olds in nursing homes lived forever. Darn this pesky virus.

The event leads to an investigation of the explosion and the disaster causes major public distrust of the use of hydrogen-inflated airships and seriously damages the reputation of the Zeppelin company.

"Instead of inflammable hydrogen, which was used up to that time, the 16 adjustable lifting gas cells were to be filled with helium. At that time this gas had to be imported from the USA where it was a waste product of oil extraction. As the USA had put a ban on helium exports hydrogen, which was available in Germany, had to be used."

"On 28 September 1938 Captain Albert Sammt made a test flight with „LZ 130“ to determin whether electrostatic charge could have caused the LZ 129 „Hindenburg“ disaster. This test was deliberately carried out during thunderstorm weather. The test flight lasted almost 26 hours and covered 2.500 km. In spite of every effort no alleged electrostatic charge of the shroud, which was propagated by the media as the cause of the disaster, was reproducible."

One month before the disaster there were threats of an attack:

"The letter, dated 8 April 1837, came from Milwaukee and was addressed to the German Embassy in Washington. A certain Mrs. Kathie Rauch implored the „dear Herrn Botschafter“: „Please, inform the Zeppelin-Gesellschaft in Frankfurt am Main, that the Zeppelin 'Hindenburg' will be destroyed by a time bomb on its flight to a foreign country.“ And: „This is no joke. If you want to save human lives, then you stop all of these flights.“

Never actually closely looked at the Hindenburg disaster, but there is a very high possibility that they blew it up in order to, once again, sabotage National Socialist Germany.

They claim the airship blew up to 'static electricity' right in front of all cameras to see.... yeah, right.

It seems the Hindenburg had been struck multiple times by lightning already and it was built to handle those kind of circumstances.

Im still going with post #5 of mine on this one.

Hydrogen is a viable option so it has to be ridiculed. Sound familiar?

O yea, that definately could be an option!

Imagine if that disaster didn't happen and Germany would have won...

We would have been having loads of those completely clean and HUGE zeppelins floating through the skies.

I just read it was a fatal blow to Germany's airship industry...

Ffs... I'm sure the oil-industry was behind it.
