This thread is for posting about WW2 artifacts, historical places, interesting finds, old documents, original places and things from WW2 that still exist etc..

From an historical perspective I find it interesting to see what is in the here and now from the time period of WW2. A mate of mine brought me into a basement a few years ago and it was filled to the brim with original WW2 items, all German, like a museum...

The locations sometimes have to be kept under wraps to keep from destruction of history that many would like to see forgotten in it's entirety.

Want to see what`s inside a REAL German WW2 bunker ?

Underground German WW2 tunnels and 88 mm guns.

This one's the first which came to my mind, as it's an absolute treat to watch the tour this guy made on his motorbike through beautiful Austria and Germany, as he visits all kinds of important WW II locations.

Which leaves very nice imagery, historical as well as present-day (overlap) so one gets to see exactly how certain areas have changed.

That MG42 is an insanely powerful machine gun. I almost bought one once, real collectors item, fully functional. But ended up buying something else, probably another AR lol

I've read WW2 Normandy Beach Veteran's testimonies about German Machine Gun nests with MG42's mowing down entire platoons and cutting them in half before they fell

I am not sure if this is the correct place but I am currently reading , having purchased from a charity shop,
"The War and Uncle Walter(the diary of an eccentric)". Which as the title suggests are the diaries written
during the war and discovered in his great-nephews loft.
They go along the lines of " my tomatoes are coming along well , aunt Mabel came over for lunch, heard
the air raid sirens this evening"
I have only reached December 1940 so far but there are some really interesting tit bits of the thoughts of the day.
For example : December 4th 1940

" That there is no real hatred contained in us for the Germans is evidenced by the opinion finely expressed by many
that we may find ourselves and the French fighting in company with Germany to overcome the menace of Soviet Russia".

This is after the Soviet invasion of Finland .

Feel free to post more parts of the book here it you want to.

I think it is interesting to read the thoughts and viewpoints of people who lived through the war. Reading about day to day life during those times gives good insights into what it was like.

I knew a Russian who lived through the German war against the Soviet Union and she had no animosity towards the Germans.

They hated the Soviet repression they were living under. They were starving to death there in Russia at the time and made deals with German soldiers to wash their uniforms in exchange for desperately needed food.

A woman I also knew lived through being in a Soviet labor camp in Estonia. It was very interesting to hear their perspectives.
