Whatever you have been told, it is probably wrong. My best guess was that it was christianity. Because before then, Rome mainly sustained itself through conquest. But according to jesus, that isn't the right way to go.

Redpill, I see lately you are having troubles quoting every post to respond to.

Could you get that fixed?

How in the hell am I supposed to fix it. I hit quote when I want to reply. Then I move down a couple spaces and type in what I have to say. After that, I hit submit. However it turns out after that is out of my control. So I guess you're just going to live with the way it turns out.

In fact the Roman Empire maintained its empire by using its religious system to appeal to the regional inhabitants' desire for pleasure. The Roman Temples were basically night clubs and knocking shops. People went to the Temple to get smashed (Temple of Bachus) and have sex with temple prostitutes (Temple of Venus).

Obviously with the rise of Christianity it was impossible to maintain this approach to maintaining the empire and being part of the Roman Empire lost its appeal since there was less in it for them.

Here is another point. From what I gather, christianity took a stand against homosexuality, pedophilia and pederasty. (At least they got something right) So from what I imagine, as far as their old religion went, anything goes. And for whatever you wanted to do, there was probably a god to worship for it. Christianity on the other hand had too many rules. Including, as I said, when it came to being against violence and oppression. (Unless it was against non-christians) And violence and oppression was what sustained Rome.
