With all the recent internet censorship occurring and the ever more obvious rise of google to global deep state super-villian, I thought this might be a good time to talk about browsers... starting with ditching google.

Ive been using Mozilla Firefox and while it works ok it can be a bit sluggish sometimes on my laptop and seize momentarily.... chrome wouldn't do that admittedly.

Somebody here suggested using Brave browser, I think it was Orangeaid, and I saw it mentioned on GAB also, so ive tried it out, and so far im impressed, it seems faster than Chrome and Firefox.

So I just thought id mention it. If anyone else has any thoughts or experiences theyd like to share, feel free to chime in.

Theres a vid on the brave home page explaining a few things.. worth a watch www.brave.com/

With the other browsers they need extra ad blockers which slow everything down, I was using ghostery and Adblocker with the others.

Hi Voltaire, you need to change the default search engines in settings.

Click on those 3 dots on the right hand side (under the X in the top corner) and settings options will then appear on the left hand side.

Go through the menu/options to find the default search engine part and change to duckduckgo or one of the other ones.

With google and mozilla firefox being part of censorship now i will continue to avoid them. Firefox has jumped on the 'fake news' bandwagon and is feeding back data to the controllers.

Sorry my bad, click on the 3 dots, then a drop down menu box appears, THEN click settings.... THEN the options should appear in a new tab.

On this new tab is a list of preferences on the left hand side. the second one down is SEARCH. Click on that and a list of search engines appear, one will have a tick next to it, google in your case.

Tick one of the other ones like duck duck go and youre done, the selection will change to whatever u ticked. No need to press 'save' anywhere, just close the preferences tab now.

I dont know how to stop ff feeding info back, im sure there are ways but im just going to keep using brave.. its a little bit different but im already used to it.

It should be in the settings under General which is the first one on the left, after youve gone into settings like i said above.

Third field down in general .... "my home page is"

You need to type the URL of the home page you want in there. You can also select whether or not the browser displays a home button all the time, its there just under the home page field.

Actually if you outside click around the menu bar and tick "Bookmarks bar" it then lets you add bookmarks to the toolbar, ive been adding mine today.

Do you mind if i move these posts to the 'Browsers' thread btw? I know you followed on waves post about ff but this stuff might help others if they find the browsers thread.

Im not really fussed either way but wave might not want the thread turning into brower how to's and tips. :D

ok... i meant right click, my bad. the right hand mouse button. I ticked "Bookmarks toolbar" so i could have bookmarks running along the top of the browser between the address bar and the tabs. Then when im on a page/site i want to bookmark, it does it by right-clicking the grey part of the tool bar again and choosing "add bookmark"

Ive moved the posts to the browsers thread now.

Thanks for the feedback, it might help others thinking about changing browsers... I dont know how to help with that, you might just have to go back to ff unfortunately if youre having too many issues.

hopefully you didnt uninstall your previous browser yet and can switch back without too much fuss?

The only other thing i can think of is the security settings need tweaking for the chat rooms , im thinking the settings are blocking things. I think you can set stuff individually for each site in the settings.

the other downside is that brave seems to have limited visible toolbar menu space - there is a button on the right that allows access to over spill, but that has now disappeared for me (unlike in ff where the button remains visible not matter how many bookmarks i add to the toolbar)

TBH - i am still not sure how ff can stop a search engine returning (((sensitive))) results.

Do you do this before Brave is installed or afterwards?

Hi liz, no you have to install it first. Once installed it has the default search as google probably because thats what most people use, but many other ones are listed in there as options that can be selected to replace google as the default.
