Pope Benedict XVI resigns, live updates
Dear Brothers,

I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonisations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry. I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognise my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me. For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.

Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

I wonder if the old tart will get a decent pension? I wonder if, in days to come, he'll have to pick between "heat or eat", or get second rate service in the hospitals "his" taxes built and ran? Methinks ole Benny's retirement is a farce - to retire, you need to have been employed, not just driven around in a Pope Mobile and kept in a palace. We should be calling his resignation an "abdication".

Er, hello *tap tap tap on DG's forehead* - does the pope pray.... (prey? sp?).

:D

Well, I was born and (sort of raised ) "Catholic", although I dumped it at the age of 13, coz I was also born with a brain. Luckily Mum and Dad only used the term "Catholic" to indicate they were Irish and not English (Protestant) so I wasn't chased to go back into it.

BUT I remember clearly always asking why they hadn't let Jesus off the cross yet? I mean, okay, he died'n all BUT wasn't the miraculous bit that 3 days later he wasn't dead at all AND could fly!?! :conf:

And all that holy chomping of his flesh... okay, so we weren't meant to chew it BUT I love wafers! nom nom nom. And I'd rather have a wafer (which is what they always gave me) than poor Jesus' flesh. :O

And, yeah, I also used to wonder how come if they had the power of God and Jesus they didn't use it for Good (I wanted a pony at the time and didn't get one :O  ).

I vote Pat to be the next pope. Pope Pat... it rolls off the tongue....

:D

‘No more Pope’: Femen activists get naked in Notre Dame to mark Pope’s resignation

Eight Femen activists undressed and flashed their breasts inside the iconic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris. The notorious female group marked Pope Benedict XVI's resignation in typically scandalous fashion.

The Ukrainian feminists entered the Gothic cathedral on Tuesday dressed in long coats, before disrobing near the altar. The bodies of the activists were painted withslogans such as "Crisis of faith," and “Pope no more!”

Their protest lasted for just a few minutes.

“Bye-bye Benedict!” and “No more homophobe!” cried the activists while beating bells with sticks, to “congratulate the world” on Benedict XVI’s stepping down.

The cathedral’s security eventually took all the Femen members outside by force, but the activists remained outside shouting "In gay we trust!"

Following his 14th birthday in 1941, Ratzinger was conscripted into the Hitler Youth—as membership was required by law for all 14-year-old German boys after December 1939—but was an unenthusiastic member who refused to attend meetings.
In 1943, while still in seminary, he was drafted into the German anti-aircraft corps as Luftwaffenhelfer (air force child soldier). Ratzinger then trained in the German infantry. As the Allied front drew closer to his post in 1945, he deserted back to his family's home in Traunstein after his unit had ceased to exist, just as American troops established their headquarters in the Ratzinger household. As a German soldier, he was put in a POW camp but was released a few months later at the end of the war in May 1945. He reentered the seminary, along with his brother Georg, in November.

I never liked him, on the contrary, but spreading spielbergian, daily failian "Nazi" propaganda does in no way help anybody.
He was 18 in 1945 so he could never have been a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party, for they did not accept minors, as you might well be aware.

He was forced to step down and in my opinion he knew it from the beginning, remembering his inauguration speech or whatever they call it. According to the prophecies of Malachy the next pope will be the last (before the One World Religion?). RatZinger is and always was well aware of "prophecies", which to me are nothing but revealed agendas, created to suppress and exploit the masses by keeping them dumb and easy to handle.

My bet is on Peter TurkSon from Ghana, which once was a province of The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, thus making him the prophesied 'Peter the Roman' - and he is black like Obama!

Saint Malachy (Middle Irish: Máel Máedóc Ua Morgair; Modern Irish: Maelmhaedhoc Ó Morgair) (1094 – 2 November 1148) was an Irish saint and Archbishop of Armagh, to whom were attributed several miracles and an alleged vision of 112 Popes later attributed to the apocalyptic list of Prophecy of the Popes. He was the first Irish saint to be canonised by Pope Clement III in 1199.

This was spread one day before he anounced his resignation

"Holy smokes! Tomorrow I'll resign". (he hit the jackpot)

The spokeswoman of Espresso publishing house confirmed: " The calendar containing this cartoon was already published on 31 August 2012".

I don't know what to think of this, but find it interesting enough to give it a thought or two.
