Just listening to it on News At Ten now, phe. 95 years old... not a bad run! 27 years in prison and out to become President of his country within the year.

Ugh, the BBC coverage has been typically pukesome. They even tried to tie in his death with the bloody Snooker, FFS. That unctious Scotswoman rambling on about how Mandela loved sport, etc etc, as though it was somehow a deep and significant connection to be making. Yes dear, I am sure he loved nothing more than to watch 6 hours of Ebdon vs Dott of an evening.

"Nelson Mandela" is more a myth than man. Created by the various organisations who wanted some saintly figurehead to deflect from their actions. The media are out of control with this crap. I grew up in that part of the 80s when you had the record, the concert, all this growing clamour to hail him as some sort of messiah. I naively believed it at the time, why wouldn't a kid not believe it?, but I've long since stop buying into the BS surrounding this mythical person.

I fully agree, Generic. He was built up, cast down, built up again, this time to the point where royalty, statesmen and celebs rushed to be akin to him..... some "rebel", huh? Winnie got the blame for this.... and that. He became more and more saintly and grandfatherly with every day until, now, even Cameron (can we have anything more separatist?) openly mourns him. :conf:

It's getting the same with her, whose name I can't remember from a country I can't recall (so, nothing new there, eh :D I'm a mine of information! ) who was "kept under house arrest" for decades - and is now reportedly working for the Government that imprisoned her.
