Dear Sir/ Madam,

I’m reliably informed that Mr Rustige 134031, ‘A’ Hall, is not receiving the medical treatment that he needs and is entitled to. In his own words, “The way my blood pressure is playing up this past few days - stress, crap diet - then I’ll have a dizzy spell turn into another stroke and exit Barlinnie in a body-bag. “


On the Government website at www.gov.uk/life-in-prison/healthcare-in-prison it says and I quote,

“3. Healthcare in prison
Prisoners get the same healthcare and treatment as anyone outside of prison.

Treatment is free but has to be approved by a prison doctor or member of the healthcare team.

Prisons don’t have hospitals, but many have in-patient beds.

Most problems are dealt with by the healthcare team. If they can’t, the prison may:

get an expert to visit the prison
arrange for treatment in an outside hospital
The healthcare team can ask the prisoner’s family doctor for their records, but only if the prisoner agrees to it.”

Mr Rustige is not only in poor health, he is a political prisoner of 65 years of age and, as such, I request that you be considerate in your handling of this man.

Please could you tell me when visits to ‘Ellon Block’ prisoners will be resumed. Specifically, when will the prisoners of Ellon 2-A Hall who were not involved in the destructive riot, and whose hall and cells were undamaged be transferred back to HMP Grampian, to facilitate visits from Aberdeen and Peterhead friends and family?
