The UK's population is at a record level after it increased by almost half a million to 64.6 million within a year, according to official figures.

The increase between mid-2013 and mid-2014 included net immigration of 259,700, the Office for National Statistics said.

Over that period 582,600 migrants arrived in the UK, compared with 322,900 people leaving the country - accounting for 53% of the increase.

Net international migration was the highest since the year to mid-2011 and up by 76,300 from 183,400.

An ONS spokesman said the statistics showed the UK population had grown by almost half a million since mid-2013, up 0.77% to 64,596,800 - higher than the annual increase of 0.75% over the last decade.

The estimated population of England in mid-2014 was 54.3 million, up 0.84%, with the corresponding figures for Scotland standing at 5.3 million (up 0.37%), 3.1 million in Wales (0.31%), and 1.8 million in Northern Ireland (0.59%).

The overall increase was due to natural growth of 226,200 and a net migration of 259,700, while an increase of 5,200 was due to other changes and adjustments, mainly in the armed forces.

Over the period, the median age of the population was 40, the highest ever estimated, with the proportion of older people continuing to rise with more than 11.4 million people aged 65 and over, up from 11.1 million the previous year.

Projections from the ONS indicate that by 2044 a quarter of the UK population will be aged 65 and over.

The trend of an ageing population has continued over the last 30 years, partly due to an increase in life expectancy and also the high number of births in the years following the Second World War.

Campaign group Population Matters, which carries out research on the environmental impact of population size, said the growing population is having an effect on the quality of life and that it is time to address the "population problem".

Simon Ross, chief executive of the organisation, said: "The world is heading for an additional four billion people by 2100. The ONS estimates should serve as a warning that we need to act sooner rather than later to reduce population growth.

"We are all affected adversely by the rapid population growth of recent decades. Examples include pressure on housing and public services to the environment and climate change.

"As a nation we need to invest more in addressing these issues. Our emphasis should be on improved family planning and women's education and empowerment, together with public information campaigns about the immense strains population and consumption growth place on our planet."

He added that the Government needed to talk about family planning as part of a sustainable lifestyle, and look at ways of keeping the older population in work.

Mr Ross said: "The Government and employers need to work together to help people stay in work longer - older people have got great experience, and a lot of work can be done from home.

"We need to work to keep hold of people contributing, and in work."

He emphasised that the growing population is "creating a housing crisis, it is contributing to rising energy costs, it is creating issues like people not being able to see their GP", and called for people and those in the public eye to talk more openly about having smaller families.

Mr Ross said: "There has been a history of not talking about it. They should be saying, 'I am having a smaller family because I am concerned about the future of the environment, and I am concerned about sustainability'.

"More celebrities should be saying that they are having smaller families because they are worried about the future of the planet."

It's not a population issue, it's a working life/employment issue, being presented as a population issue imo.

And the extra 4 billion predicted for 2100, it's not an impact on the global resource issue, it's a lack of distribution and infrastructure issue, it's a resource mismanagement problem not an over population problem.

It's gone up 5 million in 15 years. :O

Hundreds of thousands of White Brits have moved to Oz during that time. Where are most migrants to the UK coming from? Eastern Europe or Third World?

Part of Perth's "Little Britain".

There are two suburbs where exactly 43 per cent of the population was born in a single country other than Australia. One is located in Sydney's west as you might expect; the other is a surprise.

That other is the new suburb of Jindalee on the northernmost edge of Perth. Positioned between Wanneroo Road and the Indian Ocean, Jindalee was home to 1200 residents at the census, of whom 43 per cent were born in a single overseas country.

And the name of the single country of birth for almost half Jindalee's residents? Why, it's Britain, of course. Interestingly the five most "British" suburbs in Australia are located in Perth: Jindalee, Mindarie (34 per cent), Connolly (33 per cent), Burns Beach (32 per cent) and Carramar (32 per cent).

What is it about the northern and mostly coastal beaches of Perth that so attract the British to the exclusion of other migrants?

I suspect this is a hangover from the Ten-Pound-Pom immigration scheme from the 1950s and 60s when British migrants sick of the boat got off at Fremantle.

Once a nationality establishes critical mass in a region, subsequent familial and tribal links attract yet more from the same group; it becomes an upward spiral. Someone should look at opening a fish and chip shop in Jindalee.

Is the answer to ship people off to Canada or Oz or some other ''province'' ?
Most if it is owned by the queen/crown anyways.

There must be a huge problem as it's no longer possible to fit the global population onto the Isle of wight.
MATHS!

These are the facts we need (all figures are a little approximate…given tides, birthrates, people sizes, etc.):

The Isle of Wight’s surface area:

381,000,000m2

Number of people on earth:

7,200,000,000

Maximum crowd density, i.e. people you can safely squish together:

About 5 people per 1m2

And with these numbers… the number of people you can fit on the Isle of Wight is…

1.9 billion

- – -

Oh dear. That’s a little disappointing, isn’t it? The Island seems so big when you have to go to Ventnor.

1.9 billion is about the number of people around a hundred years ago, when the thought experiment was apparently first posed.

This isn’t quite right, though. This number is probably too high, because it assumes people can stand side by side, neatly tessellating across the surface of the entire Island, including on cliff edges, boulders, landslips, on (and in) hedges and brambles and trees, on steep hillsides and gullies and – yes – on blue slipper.

I can’t calculate this this margin of error accurately, but it certainly renders a fair percentage of the Island’s area unsafe or unavailable.
However, if you consider buildings, you introduce the idea of multiple storeys, and people being able to stand on rooftops, etc., and therefore more people in total. But as a percentage of the Island’s actual surface area, multiple-storey buildings are basically negligible. Most of our fair Isle is fields.

If you don’t trust my approximations, it probably doesn’t make any difference, because there is really nowhere near enough room. At all.

But what if you really shoved people together?

“Maybe you’re just not trying hard enough,” you say.

Well, okay. If you really wanted to squash people together until it was truly unsafe and uncomfortable, with elbows and legs and faces all being involuntarily pushed together, and the unlucky people on the edges being pushed off Whitecliff and into the Medina, then you might be able to manage maybe 7 people per square metre.

And at this density, the Island would be able to hold…

2,667,000,000 people

That’s assuming completely uniform person-tessellation, and blanket Island coverage, both of which are effectively impossible.

This was the world’s population in 1953, according to the UN.

So, in short, no. You cannot fit everyone in the world on the Isle of Wight. We’ve definitely missed our shot by at least 60 years.

But, hopefully, it won’t ever be necessary to even try (…unless the Triffids are real).

Will the owners of the RBA change? :chuckle:

Will the puppets (politicians) that are putting corporations and the globalists and their think tanks visons/plans into reality change their ways if the union jack is jacked off the flag? :chuckle:

Well yes Mr Smarty Bum Pants :hahano: .... the RBA will still be 100% "owned" by the Australian Govt but part of the BIS Jew fractional reserve lending Central Banking system.

I'm sure you'll still be looking into the eyes of Lynne Forester de Rothschild while doing the horizontal lambada and imagining she's Jemima Goldsmith for years to come :hahano:

hi orange -
being in the Asian ( China ) sphere of 'influence' - it'll probably see more Chinese coming in being the 'new' owners perhaps. But I don;t see Oz escaping the global agenda - they perhaps just want get the huge influx of Afrian immigrants fleeing the war torn countries and perhaps it has the space that Europe doesn't . Thing is vast swoths of Britain are still countryside , but like America many are becoming
'Federal' ( UN ) no go areas in the future . The people everywhere for the most part are being pushed into all ready crowed cites and in the EU we know the score is going against those born there . The poms probably gravitate to where they have contacts and yes a beach.
I got off the boat at Perth a longtime time ago , my traveling buds got jobs at Swan brewery and in Sydney cleaning Opera House windows.lol.

UK population reaches record 64.6m

Expose you should deduct 7,500,000 ........ because they just imported subjects to the UK!

Immigrants now make up 13% of the British population as it’s revealed more
Europeans arrived in the UK in the past decade than in the previous 50 years

7.5million people born outside of UK now live in Britain, 2011 Census found
Huge numbers came from Europe in past ten years - majority from Poland
3.4million people born outside the UK had British passport in 2011
Number of child carers is up almost 20% in ten years to 177,000
Almost 10,000 of these are aged five to seven, up 83% since 2001
2011 Census data shows many are putting in more than 50 hours per week
