Former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa slammed the country's current leader, Lenín Moreno, on Twitter, branding him "the greatest traitor in Ecuador and Latin American history" for having "allowed the British police to enter our embassy in London to arrest Assange.

"Moreno is a corrupt man," Correa tweeted. "But what he has done is a crime that humanity will never forget."

In a statement posted to Twitter, Britain's Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, said Assange was "rightly facing justice" after the arrest, thanking the Metropolitan Police and Ecuador for their roles. "No one is above the law," he said.

In addition to Snowden and Correa, voices from around the world have weighed in on Assange's arrest.

Former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont said he was "deeply shocked" by the arrest, asserting that "human rights, and especially freedom of expression, are under attack once again in Europe," with the hashtag #FreeJulianAssange.

Ecuador's reputation has suffered badly by kicking out Assange, and it sets a dangerous precedent for embassies of various nations around the world, who'll now feel free to kick out anybody seeking political asylum.

Assange was holding a copy of the book 'Gore Vidal: History of the National Security State'.

It's about historical events that led to the establishment of the massive military-industrial-security complex & the political culture that gave us the “Imperial Presidency.” #FreeAssange

Julian Assange was subjected to a 'Truman Show' by Equadorian Spys.

Massive trove of videos taken with hidden high resolution cameras, audio recordings by use of hidden audio equipment, legal meetings recorded, legal documents copied, private doctors examination videotaped, photographs etc...

All was being recorded and audio-taped inside the embassy in Julian's living quarters and then was eventually put up for sale for three million euros.

This breach of total privacy of Assange inside the embassy, which started when Equadorian President Moreno took over, has very likely been shared with the U.S. Government.

Incidentally, in Assange's place what would TZ members have done?
I mean, being holed up in an embassy for 7 years is like being in prison, and I'm sure he could have sneaked out in disguise any time he liked couldn't he?

What will happen to Embassy Cat?

The asylum seeker's furry friend was Assange's only consistent companion during some of his lonely years as a self-styled political refugee.

So when police stormed the Ecuadoran embassy, arrested Mr Assange and took him into custody after a US federal court unsealed an indictment charging him with conspiracy, many worried about the fate of the feline.

The person closest to Mr Assange to comment on Embassy Cat, a member of his legal team, said Mr Assange gave the cat to a family member after the Ecuadoran embassy threatened to take the pet to a shelter.

In the same document in which Ecuador threatened to hand Assange over for arrest, Ecuador also threatened to put Assange's cat in the pound.
Incensed at the threat, he asked his lawyers to take his cat to safety. The cat is with Assange's family. They will be reunited in freedom. pic.twitter.com/W9FvDbvQgw

And if Assange planned to spend the rest of his life in the embassy it would have been like a life-long prison sentence, so perhaps he shouldn't have gone in there in the first place.
If he'd faced the charges in court 7 years ago perhaps he'd have served his sentence by now and be a free man?

Well Sweden was trying to extradite him from the U.K. for what appears to be bogus rape charges and he feared that Sweden would allow him to be extradited to the U.S. or perhaps he thought he may be captured in a CIA snatch and grab.

He was trying to work out something with British authorities to leave the embassy but they were adamant about enforcing the warrant against him.

There is no way he could have walked out of there in disguise, they had the embassy (and him) under 24 hour surveillance.

It has now come out that the Equadorian authorities under President Moreno, have been filming and audio-taping him inside his private living quarters in a total Truman Show style breach of privacy since 2017.

It appears Assange was possibly wanting to escape to Russia (he has had very limited potential choices for a safe country)

Leaked Files Confirm Julian Assange Plan To Move To Moscow
10/17/2018

A month after the Associated Press published internal WikiLeaks files which suggested the transparency organization's founder Julian Assange had since 2010 contemplated moving to Russia — outside the reach of US and UK authorities — newly released Ecuadorean government documents have revealed a more elaborate plan to escape to Moscow by using Ecuadorean diplomatic cover.

The documents show that the plan was being pursued as recently as 2017, and involved Assange being transferred from his Ecuadorean embassy quarters — where he's been stuck for the last six years — via a politically sensitive process whereby Ecuador would name him as a political counselor to the country's embassy in Moscow.

Should the plan have succeeded, Assange could have possibly freely exited the UK for Russia as an official diplomat for Ecuador with all the legal protections afforded such status. However, British authorities vetoed his diplomatic status and refused to recognize such a designation, which ultimately blocked the plan from coming to fruition.

According to the AP, which has linked to the 167 pages of Spanish language secret internal government documents, Assange was actually for a brief period made "political counselor" to the Ecuadorean Embassy in Moscow:

The files were made public late Tuesday by Ecuadorean opposition lawmaker Paola Vintimilla, who opposes her government’s decision to grant Assange nationality. They largely corroborate a recent Guardian newspaper report that Ecuador attempted the elaborate maneuver to get Assange to Moscow just before Christmas last year.

Russian diplomats called the Guardian’s story “fake news,” but the government files show Assange briefly was made “political counselor” to the Ecuadorean Embassy in Moscow and eligible for a monthly salary pegged at $2,000.

It appears the leaks are part of an organized opposition plan to quash any possible future escape or transfer attempts before they materialize.

The files show Ecuador went so far as to apply for Assange's diplomatic ID card — something which the British vetoed. One letter dated December 21, 2017 released as part of the leaked trove on Tuesday shows Britain’s Foreign Office said U.K. officials “do not consider Mr. Julian Assange to be an acceptable member of the mission.”

And subsequent to this, the AP reports, an eight-page memo to parliamentarian Paolo Vintimilla said that Assange’s position as counselor was revoked a few days later. The memo had further summarized the entirety of the plan to allow Assange to escape UK soil under cover of diplomatic protection.

Thus far neither the British Foreign Office nor the Russian Embassy in London have issued comment.

A number of political leaders and media pundits in the West have long accused Assange and WikiLeaks of being an arm of Russian intelligence, and they'll most certainly seize upon these new files to continue such allegations; however, with Assange's physical and also possibly mental health reportedly deteriorating after six years of confinement within the small embassy space, it makes perfect sense that he would attempt any way out possible — while further seeking the protections of any sympathetic government.

In 2013 Edward Snowden fled to Moscow after going public with thousands of classified NSA files from Hong Kong which revealed an extensive illegal domestic spying network by the United States government. Snowden has been granted a permit by the Russian government to stay until at least 2020, and he's reportedly residing at an undisclosed location in or around Moscow.

It appears Assange too was hoping to make it to Russian soil under Ecuadorean cover where he also might have eventually been granted such a deal.

I arrived home at my tower block in 2001 after buying a bag o' chips and saw a police van in the car park and thought "Haha, some poor slob's getting busted", and when I got up to my flat the front door was ajar, and when I peeped in I saw it was crawling with coppers searching it.
I could have quietly turned round and done a runner, but I decided to take it on the chin, I'd just been down the chip shop so I waltzed in and said to them "Anybody want a chip?".
But they refused and I was arrested on a vigilante charge (I'd upset a local black drug gang) and was sentenced to 3 months in Leicester prison.
My point is if I'd been in Assange's place I don't thnk I'd have dived into an embassy for asylum

The main wrong done to Assange is that Ecuador let the Brit coppers invade their embassy to collar him, setting a very dangerous precedent.
For example suppose anybody anywhere in the world seeks refuge, the embassy can refuse to let him in and say- "But Ecuador wouldn't grant asylum to that Assange bloke, so why should we?"

What possible motive could Ecuador have of allowing British police into the embassy?

As they say, follow the money.

In February, Ecuador signed a $4.2 billion financing deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the Latin American country tackles a widening budget deficit and ballooning debt levels. Also, President Lenin Moreno confirmed that the country will receive an additional $6 billion in loans from various institutions, including the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.

The maturities on these loans extend up to 30 years and interest rates will not top five percent.

Despite several budget cuts that critics say is austerity, the president promised that most of the funds will be allocated to social investment, including the growing number of police officers and covering the annual bonus given to retirees.

What interesting timing to say the least!

Ecuador houses Julian Assange for several years, and then about two months later the Ecuador government says to the rest of the world: Come! Come! You can arrest a journalist and publisher! Just be sure to give us money!

It stinks.

The Ecuador president said on the TV news the other day that he didn't feel it was right that the embassy should go on sheltering a suspected criminal and I suppose he's got a point, but it's debatable because Assange is only "suspected" and has never been proven guilty in a court of law.
in other words it'd be wrong for any embassy to shelter a tried and convicted criminal, but Assange doesn't fall into that category..
