Trump beating Yang and the democrats to the punch on some form of UBI could salvage his failed presidency and get him re-elected.

the Nazis were economic populists. The worst imaginable outcome for the United States would be if the right goes left economically before we do, while staying far right socially.

The Republican Party is going to be the party that ends up representing the Working Class at this rate. The Democratic Party currently thumbs their nose at the working class so I fully support anyone willfully leaving that conglomeration of Corporate Corruption. #NeverBiden

It is a potential opportunity but also extremely dangerous. They're talking up UBI while also ramping up their xenophobia

profoundly depressing and astonishing to watch the Democrats fully abandon the working class and the GOP rush in to fill the void.

This is literally what Bernie would have done in 2021 and beyond. Crazy how his “radical ideas” are suddenly possible, from both the right and the centrists.

The temporary Universal Basic Income (UBI) now proposed by Sen. Romney and previously brought to the forefront by Andrew Wang has been around for a long time and seriously considered by the Nixon Administration. Of course, the GOP was very different back then

The Republicans have always been better at the game. They are going to go left of the Dems and it will be game over for the
@DNC
. We have been screaming about this for years. They keep ignoring us at their own peril. Romney is offering more than Kamala for the love of Pete!

This is...stunning. This is the endgame of the neoliberal project and it’s jaw dropping.

Yes, the mix of emergency social welfare programs, America-firstism, and fear of the "Chinese virus" could spell peak Trump. Centrist Dems with their incrementalism may find themselves totally outmaneuvered.

Dems abandoned workers long ago. What's surprising is GOP supporting them. I hate Trump, but I think he draws a lot of support from the working class. Could it be that that's why GOP is increasingly responsive to it?

Yep. It looks like republicans are going back to being the party of the people since democrats have lost their souls.

Yep. Looking to be bigger than 1964, probably on par with 1856. As much as we hate him, you can see the change in rhetoric on the right to more socialized care for the population in Tucker Carlson's show. The difference is Bernie's is universal, the Right's is blood-and-soil
@noahthedubois

If the right is savvy enough, they'll go full on left wing economics, while keeping the cultural conservatism and xenophobia. Democrats didn't have to sede populism to the Republicans but here we are.

Yeah, it's really bad. We don't have a left nearly as strong as they did in Wiemar Germany. It's really bad.

It's not gonna be pretty Ben. Unlike the fascists in Europe, the US is significantly more ethnically & geographically divided than let's say Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy or Francoist Spain. This will not end well. A shame how historically ignorant we are.

Nah, only two Repubs and Trump have made such proposals, we’ve got more Dems supporting this idea. But if we actually have a chance of getting right-wing populists (NatSocs) in power, then better let society burn in the short-term rather than risk it in the longterm.

Guys this is it we either reform the democratic party or move green or start a new one. The dnc is done for its going to the right by the minute. If we allow the gop to become populist then we're ****ed.

Not a good one though. The future is socialism, we can either be a social Democracy or... be one led by nationalist socialists, which have always gone by a different name historically... Allowing the RW to gain credibility in this crisis is a death sentence to all of us.

Jennifer Rubin and Bill Kristol have become the spokespersons of the New Democratic Party and Tom Cotton and Mitt Romney are the propels champions leading the fight for UBI. Wild times.
@AlexWil80801816

It’s already happening my brother. Trump will run on the fact that he put $1000 in each Americans pocket and win the election in a landslide. He will win the hearts and minds of centrist dems, moderate dems and they will vote for him.

@KeithMcC2929
What a smart play by Trump. If he makes UBI happen, his election is sealed. .
