Looking for platinum from high altitude?
Yes the size is baffling.
I think methane bubbles are off the list.
Why would the Russian scientist say it was caused by methane? Sorry, but I get this image of a farting cow.

They are still at war, same as US, UK, China, France.
Germany(motherland in Europe) is not organized, military occupied by enemies, with only a temporary vassal construct in place, which is not sovereign, no peace treaty with any nation.
Japan has peace treaty with US, but not with China or Russia.
However, Germany has expanded some 75 years ago(not in Europe), and this part is organized.

As said, I think it is weapons fire. a reminder to come clean.

Update on these craters. They still say it is methane/gas. Apparently Gazprom field is 10 kilometers away.
More info in the links + pictures. Good pictures too, pity I can't do pics. :emb: perhaps...errm Novum....

I still don't believe the methane gas theory, even if it turns out to be fact, there is something smelling and it ain't methane.

A few weeks ago the same methane explanation or theory was written about in the Guardian.
The latest article has another theory--

New explanation for Siberia’s mystery craters
Carolyn Ruppel, chief of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Gas Hydrates Project, told EarthSky this week (March 9, 2015) that an explosive release of methane is not a likely explanation for the craters. It’s true that, in Siberian permafrost, large deposits of methane gas are trapped in ice, forming what is called a gas hydrate. Methane remains stable and frozen at certain temperatures, but as the permafrost warms, and its internal strength decreases, it may be less able to withhold the build-up of sub-surface gases, and thus a release of methane is possible.

But, Ruppel told us:

Generic methane hydrates in permafrost settings are normally not stable above about 200 meters depth. The craters are far shallower than that, so tapping into dissociating methane hydrate is probably unlikely.

She and other scientists are calling on a simpler explanation, related to mounds of earth-covered ice in the Arctic and subarctic known as pingos.

National Geographic reported on February 27:

A pingo is a plug of ice that forms near the surface over time and has a small mound or hill on top.

When an ice plug melts rapidly — as many have been, thanks to unseasonably warm temperatures in Siberia over the past year — it can cause part of the ground to collapse, forming a crater.

That can’t be the whole story, since ejected rocks that have been found around the rim of the craters, suggesting some sort of explosion.

Helicopter video footage of the first hole shows it is surrounded by a mound of loose dirt that appears to have been thrown out of the hole.
"My personal opinion is it's some type of sinkhole," said Vladimir Romanovsky, a geophysicist who studies permafrost at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Sinkholes are pits in the ground formed when water fails to drain away.
The water likely came from melting permafrost or ice, said Romanovsky, who has spoken with the Russian scientists investigating the site. But whereas most sinkholes suck collapsed material inside, "this one actually erupted outside," he told Live Science. "It's not even in the [scientific] literature. It's pretty new what we're dealing with," he added.
Early on, polar scientist Chris Fogwill of the University of New South Wales, in Australia, suggested the first hole was created by the collapse of a pingo, a large, earth-covered mound of ice that usually forms in Arctic and subarctic regions.

Actually these craters may be perfectly in accordance with my view that Earth had a super-dense hydrogen core....

As we don't have a "Sinkholes" thread yet, maybe the admin
can edit the title to

Siberian Craters and Sinkholes all over the world

or something like that?

A show of force to finally come clean with the past, my guess.
Probably same reason, why the US have sometimes up to 70 Tornadoes simultaneously causing damage.

I don't think it was the Americans, since they face the same opponent as the Russians, ie the UN in general have this little problem, since decades.

Article 53
Article 107

The only explanation I have, which is more based on facts than some little green men.

As for the stuff around the hole, I think its caused by initial impact.

You edited to add the pic. Yes I'm convinced about the surround of the hole, but don't understand the UN business.
