Russia’s Su-35S Supersonic Speeds Versus U.S. Stealth Fighter F-22 Raptor
The F-22 Raptor of the United States is the only operational fifth-generation stealth jet fighter in the world. No other stealth fighter jet in the world could match its advanced avionics in terms of its lethal capacity and survival capability. It is the only jet fighter in the world that can launch air-to-air and air-to-ground combat missions,
Russia's Su-35S Flanker-E on the other hand is designed to launch missiles from high supersonic speeds at about Mach 1.5 at elevations more than 45,000 ft. Su-35S Flanker-E is the most powerful aircraft in the possession of the Russian Air Force
However, a veteran F-22 pilot said that military tactics and strategy during actual combat remains the deciding factor to judge whether a nation is really capable of winning. He said whether Russia can translate Su-35S' capabilities into "valid tactics remains to be seen." While it is overwhelming to compare one aircraft to another, these are just aircrafts. The command and control to execute military tactics remains the big advantage of U.S. over Russia, one navy official highlighted.
One senior military official expressed the same opinion. He said that while Su-35S is perhaps the best aircraft that Russia has ever developed, it is still not a Raptor. Su-35S will be "hamstrung by the two key elements of fifth gen war... stealth, and broad spectrum sensor fusion," the official said.
