The Order of the Rising Sun (旭日章 Kyokujitsu-shō) is a Japanese order, established in 1875 by Emperor Meiji of Japan. The Order was the first national decoration awarded by the Japanese Government, created on 10 April 1875 by decree of the Council of State. The badge features rays of sunlight from the rising sun. The design of the Rising Sun symbolizes energy as powerful as the rising sun in parallel with the "rising sun" concept of Japan ("Land of the Rising Sun").It can be awarded to Japanese as well as non-Japanese nationals.

There is something to be learned from a rainstorm - Thousands of our trees are being felled in the name of the council. Treebeard describes Saruman as having "a mind of metal and wheels. Pavement surfaces are not designed to carry the weight of vehicle's, for example families with pushchairs, are forced into the road and into oncoming traffic, pavement parking is simply dangerous. Just like the Council. What are they doing? Thousands of prime urban trees have been slashed down. The concept of scorched earth is sometimes applied figuratively to the business world. www.nytimes.com/1995/08/17/opinion/l-the-last-tree-420195.html

The Rising Sun Flag (旭日旗 Kyokujitsu-ki) was originally used by feudal war lords in Japan during the Edo period. On May 15, 1870, as a policy of the Meiji Restoration, it was adopted as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army, and on October 7, 1889, it was adopted as the naval ensign/war flag of the Imperial Japanese Navy.It is still used in Japan as a symbol of tradition and good fortune, and is incorporated into commercial products and advertisements. The design is similar to the flag of Japan, which has a red circle in the center signifying the sun. The difference compared to the flag of Japan is that the Rising Sun Flag has extra sun rays (16 for the ensign) exemplifying the name of Japan as "The Land of the Rising Sun".

There are seven patterns of the Rising Sun. The Rising Sun has evolved over time and today Australian Army soldiers wear the seventh pattern Rising Sun.

The Prodigal Son, so long a wanderer in the regions of darkness, has returned again to his Father’s house. The voice speaks from the Heavens, its power thrilling the Master until hi s own being seems filled with its divinity, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” The ancients taught that the sun was not a source of light, life, or power, but a medium through which life and light were reflected into physical substance. The Master Mason is in truth a sun, a great reflector of light, who radiates through his organism, purified by ages of preparation, the glorious power which is the light of the Lodge. He, in truth, has become the spokesman of the Most High. He stands between the glowing fire light and the world. Through him passes Hydra, the great snake, and from its month there pours to man the light of God. "His symbol is the rising sun," for in him the globe of day has indeed risen in all its splendor from the darkness of the night, illuminating the immortal East with the first promise of approaching day.

The Duke of Cambridge was dressed as a famous samurai warrior during a visit to the set of a long-running historical drama in Japan.Prince William visited a Tokyo studio where a popular costume drama is filmed - dressing as a samurai who unified the country in the 16th century. However, he stopped short of wearing a samurai wig, saying his brother Prince Harry would "never let me forget it".

He is on a week-long visit to Japan and China to promote UK relations. The duke dressed in the costume of samurai warlord, Toyotomi Hideyoshi - who features in the Japanese historical drama Taiga - during the visit to Japan's public broadcaster NHK.He wore a glittering helmet, a red and gold tunic and carried a replica samurai sword. As staff put the helmet on his head, Prince William joked: "I feel there should be a sword in my hand as well.".Once dressed, he looked into a mirror and asked: "How do I look?" before adding: "I feel ready for action."

Before dressing up, he watched 3 geisha actresses dance, while another played a 3-stringed instrument, called a shamisen.Mao Inoue, the female star of Hana Moyu, who plays a character called Humi Sugi in the popular television programme, presented the duke with a bouquet of flowers and a hand-made wooden toy for Prince George. The duke began his four-day visit to Japan - his first visit to the country - on Thursday by taking part in a traditional tea ceremony in the capital Tokyo. The last time a senior member of Britain's royal family visited Japan was in 2008, when the duke's father, Prince Charles, came with his wife Camilla.

Hagakure (Kyūjitai: 葉隱; Shinjitai: 葉隠; meaning Hidden by the Leaves or hidden leaves), or Hagakure Kikigaki (葉隠聞書) is a practical and spiritual guide for a warrior, drawn from a collection of commentaries by the samurai Yamamoto Tsunetomo, former retainer to Nabeshima Mitsushige, the third ruler of what is now Saga prefecture in Japan. Tsuramoto Tashiro compiled these commentaries from his conversations with Tsunetomo from 1709 to 1716; however, it was not published until many years afterwards. Hagakure is also known as The Book of the Samurai, Analects of Nabeshima or Hagakure Analects. The book records Tsunetomo's views on bushido, the warrior code of the samurai. Hagakure is sometimes said to assert that bushido is really the "Way of Dying" or living as though one was already dead, and that a samurai must be willing to die at any moment in order to be true to his lord.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.

The Hagakure was written approximately one hundred years after the start of the Tokugawa era, a time of relative peace. With no major campaigns to fight, the samurai were transforming from a warrior to an administrative class. His work represents one approach to the problem of maintaining military preparedness and a proper military mindset in a time when neither has much practical application. It is difficult for a fool's habits to change to selflessness.

Because we do most things relying only on our own sagacity we become self-interested, turn our backs on reason, and things do not turn out well. When all your judgements are based on your own wisdom, you tend towards selfishness and fail by straying from the right path.Thinking about things previously and then handling them lightly when the time comes is what this is all about.

Silence (: 沈黙, translit. Chinmoku) is a 1971 Japanese drama film directed by Masahiro Shinoda based on the novel of the same name by Shusaku Endo on the entry of Jesuit missionaries to seventeenth century Japan. Mainly with Japanese dialogue, it has short sequences in English. It was entered into the 1972 Cannes Film Festival. The novel inspired Symphony no. 3 Silence, composed in 2002 by Scottish musician James MacMillan.Drawn from the oral histories of Japanese Catholic communities, Shusaku Endo's acclaimed novel Silence provides detailed accounts of the persecution of Christian communities and the suppression of the Church.Shūsaku Endō (遠藤 周作 Endō Shūsaku, March 27, 1923 – September 29, 1996) was a Japanese author who wrote from the rare perspective of a Japanese Roman Catholic. Together with Junnosuke Yoshiyuki, Shōtarō Yasuoka, Junzo Shono, Hiroyuki Agawa, Ayako Sono, and Shumon Miura, Endō is categorized as one of the "Third Generation", the third major group of writers who appeared after World War II.

TB pays tribute to Princess Diana.

Throughout his life periodic bouts of disease plagued him, and he spent two years in hospital at one point. In 1952, while studying in France, he came down with pleurisy in Paris. His books reflect many of his childhood experiences, including the stigma of being an outsider, the experience of being a foreigner, the life of a hospital patient, and the struggle with TB.At around 12:23 am at the entrance to the tunnel Paul lost control; the car swerved to the left of the two-lane carriageway before colliding head-on with the 13th pillar supporting the roof at an estimated speed of 105 km/h (65 mph). The Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital (Groupe hospitalier Pitié-Salpêtrière) is a celebrated teaching hospital in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.

Nagasaki Nightmare.
A small fishing village secluded by harbours, Nagasaki had little historical significance until contact with Portuguese explorers in 1543. An early visitor was Fernão Mendes Pinto, who came on a Portuguese ship which landed nearby in Tanegashima. In the meantime, Navarrese Jesuit missionary St. Francis Xavier arrived in Kagoshima, South Kyūshū, in 1549, and soon initiated a thorough campaign of evangelization throughout Japan, but left for China in 1551 and died soon afterwards. His followers who remained behind converted a number of daimyo. The little harbor village quickly grew into a diverse port city, and Portuguese products imported through Nagasaki (such as tobacco, bread, textiles and a Portuguese sponge-cake called castellas) were assimilated into popular Japanese culture. Tempura derived from a popular Portuguese recipe originally known as peixinho-da-horta, and takes its name from the Portuguese word, 'tempero' another example of the enduring effects of this cultural exchange. The Portuguese also brought with them many goods from China.Father Hubert Schiffer (1915 - March 27, 1982) was one of eight German Jesuits who survived the nuclear bomb "Little Boy" dropped on Hiroshima. He was only eight blocks away from ground zero when the explosion occurred. We believe that we survived because we were living the message of Fatima. We lived and prayed the rosary in that home.

Christ – The Album released in 1982 took almost a year to record, produce and mix, during which time the Falklands War had taken place. This caused Crass to fundamentally question their approach to making records, for as a group whose very reason for existing was to comment on political issues, they felt they had been overtaken and made to appear redundant by real world events. Our Lady of Fátima ( Nossa Senhora de Fátima is a title referring to the Virgin Mary, based on apparitions reported to be experienced by three shepherd children at Fátima. The three children were Lúcia Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto., were young and without much education when they reported the apparition of Our Lady of Fátima in 1917.The name of the town and parish evolved from the Arabic name Fatima (Arabic: فاطمة Fāṭimah), the name of a Moorish princess and, ultimately, of the daughter of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad.

True Romance - The Sicilian Scene.
So you see, way back then, uh, Sicilians were like, uh, wops from Northern Italy. Ah, they all had blonde hair and blue eyes, but, uh, well, then the Moors moved in there, and uh, well, they changed the whole country. They did so much fuckin' with Sicilian women, huh? That they changed the whole bloodline forever.

The Moors were Muslim inhabitants of the Maghreb, the Iberian Peninsula, Sicily, and Malta during the Middle Ages. The Moors were initially of Berber and Arab descent, though the term was later applied to Africans, Iberian Christian converts to Islam, and people of mixed ancestry.During the late 7th and early 8th centuries, the Muslim caliphate, established after the death of Muhammad, underwent a period of rapid expansion. In 647, 40,000 Arabs forced the Byzantine governor of North Africa to submit and pay tribute, but failed to permanently occupy the region. In 711 the Islamic Moors of Arab and Berber descent in North Africa crossed the Strait of Gibraltar onto the Iberian Peninsula, and in a series of raids they conquered Visigothic Christian Hispania.Their general, Tariq ibn-Ziyad, brought most of Iberia under Islamic rule in an eight-year campaign. The language spoken in the parts of the Iberian Peninsula under Muslim rule was Andalusian Arabic, a variety of the Arabic language; the language became extinct after the Expulsion of the Moriscos, but Arabic influence can be found in the Spanish language of today.

Otello and Desdemona.

The moor takes its name from the parish of Saddleworth to the west, historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire although on the western side of the Pennines, but a part of Greater Manchester since 1974. The parts of the moor east of the present county boundary with West Yorkshire are known as Wessenden Moor and Wessenden Head Moor. The Pennine Way arrives from the Wessenden valley to the north and crosses the moor on its ascent to Black Hill on Holme Moss to the south.Dovestone, Yeoman Hey, Greenfield and Chew Reservoirs east of Oldham, are accessed from the A635 road.

Moors—or more frequently their heads, often crowned—appear with some frequency in medieval European heraldry. The term ascribed to them in Anglo-Norman blazon (the language of English heraldry) is maure, though they are also sometimes called moore, blackmoor, blackamoor or negro.Maures appear in European heraldry from at least as early as the 13th century, and some have been attested as early as the 11th century in Italy, where they have persisted in the local heraldry and vexillology well into modern times in Corsica and Sardinia. The title character in William Shakespeare's play Othello, and the derived title character in Verdi's opera "Otello", is a Moor.

GIs in Special Comfort Facility Association during occupation of Japan.
The United States Forces Japan, or USFJ (在日米軍 Zainichi Beigun?) refers to the various elements of the United States Armed Forces that are stationed in Japan. Under the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the United States and Japan, the United States is obliged to protect Japan in close cooperation with the Japan Self-Defense Forces for maritime defense, ballistic missile defense, domestic air control, communications security (COMSEC) and disaster response operations. After the Japanese surrender in World War II, the United States Armed Forces assumed administrative authority in Japan. The Japanese Imperial Army and Navy were decommissioned, and the U.S. Armed Forces took control of their military bases until the new government could be formed and positioned to reestablish authority. Allied forces planned to demilitarize Japan, and new government adopted the Constitution of Japan with a no-armed-force clause in 1947.In the Vietnam War, the US military bases in Japan, especially those in Okinawa, were used as important strategic and logistic bases. As of 2013, there are approximately 50,000 U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan, along with approximately 40,000 dependents of military personnel and another 5,500 American civilians employed there by the United States Department of Defense. The USAF strategic bombers were deployed in the bases in Okinawa, which was still administered by the U.S. government. Before the 1972 reversion of the island to Japanese administration, it has been speculated but never confirmed that up to 1,200 nuclear weapons may have been stored at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa in the 1960s.

The Oshika Peninsula (牡鹿半島 Oshika-hantō, also pronounced "Ojika") is a peninsula which projects southeast into the Pacific Ocean from the coast of Miyagi Prefecture in northeast Honshu, the main island of Japan. The 9.0 magnitude (Mw) undersea megathrust earthquake occurred on 11 March 2011 at 14:46 JST (05:46 UTC) in the north-western Pacific Ocean at a relatively shallow depth of 32 km (19.9 mi),with its epicenter approximately 72 km (45 mi) east of the Oshika Peninsula of Tōhoku, Japan, lasting approximately six minutes. The earthquake was initially reported as 7.9 Mw by the USGS before it was quickly upgraded to 8.8 Mw, then to 8.9 Mw, and then finally to 9.0 Mw.Sendai was the nearest major city to the earthquake, 130 km (81 mi) from the epicenter; the earthquake occurred 373 km (232 mi) from Tokyo. One minute before the earthquake was felt in Tokyo, the Earthquake Early Warning system, which includes more than 1,000 seismometers in Japan, sent out warnings of impending strong shaking to millions. The peninsula is most often visited as the gateway to the island of Kinkasan, which can be accessed by ferries running from the coastal whaling port of Ayukawa in Ishinomaki, Miyagi and from Onagawa. The catastrophic 9.0-Magnitude earthquake and tsunami on March 11, inflicted massive damage along the east coast of this region, killed 20,000 people and was the costliest natural disaster ever which left 500,000 people homeless along with radioactive fallout.

Following the Japanese surrender on August 15, 1945 the Japanese found themselves confronted with the prospect of a large number of Allied troops on Japanese soil. Rumors quickly spread among the public of the tragedies soon to befall them. Well aware of the conduct of their own forces during the war, and assuming that Allied troops would behave in the same way, government officials began planning measures to "channel" the sexual urges of the occupying forces into "designated (lower-class) female bodies, thereby protecting the pure women of Japan's middle- and upper-classes".The Recreation and Amusement Association (特殊慰安施設協会 Tokushu Ian Shisetsu Kyōkai (Special Comfort Facility Association)) (RAA) was the largest of the organizations established by the Japanese government to provide organized prostitution and other leisure facilities for occupying Allied troops immediately following World War II. The RAA "recruited" 55,000 women and was short-lived, lasting just over four months until January 1946.The Tōhoku region (東北地方 Tōhoku-chihō) consists of the northeastern portion of Honshu, the largest island of Japan. This traditional region consists of six prefectures (ken): Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi and Yamagata. The area was historically known as the Michinoku region. a term first recorded in Hitachi-no-kuni Fudoki (常陸国風土記) (654). There is some variation in modern usage of the term "Michinoku".The haiku poet Matsuo Bashō wrote Oku no Hosomichi (The Narrow Road to the Deep North) during his travels through Tōhoku. The region is traditionally known as a less developed area of Japan.

In 1995, the abduction and rape of a 12-year-old Okinawan schoolgirl by two U.S. marines and one U.S. sailor led to demands for the removal of all U.S. military bases in Japan. Other controversial incidents include helicopter crashes, the Girard incident, the Michael Brown Okinawa assault incident, the death of Kinjo family and the death of Yuki Uema. In February 2008, a 38-year-old U.S. Marine based on Okinawa was arrested in connection with the reported rape of a 14-year-old Okinawan girl. This triggered waves of protest against American military presence in Okinawa and led to tight restrictions on off-base activities.According to Calvin Sims of the New York Times: "Much has been written and debated about atrocities that Okinawans suffered at the hands of both the Americans and Japanese in one of the deadliest battles of the war. More than 200,000 soldiers and civilians, including one-third of the population of Okinawa, were killed".Scuffles broke out in parliament amid wrangling over Japan's security bill.

The Hunt for Red October - Escaping Torpedoes.
The Hunt for Red October was Tom Clancy's 1984 debut novel. The story follows a CIA analyst who leads a group of US Naval officers to take possession of a cutting-edge Soviet nuclear submarine from 26 defecting Soviet officers, and the intertwined adventures of Soviet submarine captain Marko Aleksandrovich Ramius and Jack Ryan, a former Marine turned CIA analyst.

Sanremo cable car.
The Inagawa-kai (稲川会) is the third largest of Japan's yakuza groups, with approximately 15,000 members. It is based in the Kantō region, and was one of the first yakuza organizations to begin operating overseas. The Inagawa-kai was founded in Atami, Shizuoka in 1949 as the Inagawa-gumi (稲川組) by Kakuji Inagawa. Most of its members were drawn from the bakuto (traditional gamblers), and illegal gambling has long been the clan's main source of income. It has also expanded into such fields as drug trafficking, blackmail, extortion, and prostitution. Though relatively small, the group is known for being well-disciplined and efficient.

The Talented Mr. Ripley- Peeping Tom

The Inagawa-kai quietly helped to provide relief in the wake of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami by sending supplies to affected areas. As a whole, the group shipped over 100 tons of supplies, including instant ramen, bean sprouts, paper diapers, batteries, flashlights, tea and drinking water, to the Tōhoku region. The epicenter of the Great Kantō earthquake in 1923 was deep beneath Izu Ōshima Island in Sagami Bay, close to Atami, which suffered considerable damage, as did other municipalities throughout the surrounding Kantō region. The tsunami wave height reached 35 feet at Atami, swamping the town and drowning three hundred people. Atami is located in the far eastern corner of Shizuoka Prefecture at the northern end of Izu Peninsula. The city is on the steep slopes of a partially submerged volcanic caldera on the edge of Sagami Bay. The name "Atami" literally means "hot ocean," a reference to the town's famous onsen hot springs.

The daimon of Inagawa-kai.Marge.

Inagawa-kai's renowned figures in the 20th century include Tatsuo Deguchi (known as the "Moroccan Tatsu" or "Tatsu of Morocco"), Kingo Yoshimizu, Kijin Inoue, Takamasa Ishii, Haruki Sho, and Kiichiro Hayashi. Haruki Sho (趙春樹?), known as "Gotenba boss", was originally a Chinese national who moved to Japan as a forced laborer with his family. He was best known as the Grand Advisor for the third-generation Inagawa-kai and was one of the most respected godfathers in Inagawa history. Why is it when men play they always play at killing each other?

Atami is twinned with:Sanremo since 1976-The Venerable Giorgio Baldassarre Oppezzi, a monk who died in 1525, and whose body was later discovered to be incorrupt, is buried here in the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli-Alfred Nobel bought a villa in Sanremo in 1891 and died there in 1896. Italian-born sculptor Giuseppe Moretti lived in Sanremo in his final years and died here in February 1935. Moretti designed the world's largest cast iron statue, of the Roman god Vulcan (56 ft or 17 m), which stands atop Red Mountain in Birmingham, Alabama (USA). The statue is the symbol of the city-Mehmed VI, the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, died in Sanremo on May 16, 1926-Mohammad Ali Shah Qajar, Shah of Persia from 1907 to 1909, died in Sanremo on April 5, 1925..The culinary specialities of Sanremo and environs include Sardenara, Focaccia, Focaccia alle Cipolle, Torta Verde, Farinata and Tallesca olives.-Sanremo is also twinned with Karlskoga Sweden. The name Karlskoga is derived from Charles (Karl) IX, with skog meaning woods.

Ogier the Dane (Holger Danske) is a legendary knight of Charlemagne who appears in many Old French chansons de geste And now my story's begun. I'll tell you another 1944 April 17 Monday - The Take-Ichi sendan (竹一船団 Bamboo No. One convoy) was a Japanese convoy of World War II. The convoy left Shanghai, carrying two infantry divisions to reinforce Japan's defensive positions in the Philippines and western New Guinea, and initially comprised 15 transports and the 6th Escort Convoy Command - USNavy submarines attacked the convoy on 26 April and 6 May, sinking 4 transports and killing more than 4,000 soldiers. These losses caused the convoy to be diverted to Halmahera, where the surviving soldiers and their equipment were unloaded. The figure of the jack has been used in many literary works throughout history - It's 10 o'clock, the house wives yell when Jack turns up,we'll give him hell.

Meeting at the Wharf Hi USS Jack (-259) Launched: 16 October 1942.

Intelligence from the intercepted radio signals was used to guide the submarine USS Jack - Oligoplites saurus, is a species of jack in the family Carangidae and is capable of delivering a painful sting with spines in front of the anal fin - The Japanese Take Ichi convoy left Shanghai carrying two infantry divisions to reinforce Japanese positions in the Philippines and western New Guinea. There were two phases to the operation. In the first phase, the Japanese secured the Pinghan Railway between Beijing and Wuhan; in the second, they displaced the US air forces stationed in Hunan province and reached the city of Liuzhou, near the border with Japanese-held Indochina. 17 divisions, including 500,000 men, 15,000 vehicles, 6,000 artillery pieces, 800 tanks and 100,000 horses participated in this operation - A jack of plate is a type of armour made up of small iron plates sewn between layers of felt and canvas - France and some other countries use the same flag or ensign for all purposes, civil or military, and also as their naval jack - Japan and some other countries with civil and war ensigns of different designs fly the civil ensign as a jack and the war ensign at the ship's stern - Dimitrios Psarros (Δημήτριος Ψαρρός, 1893) was a Greek army officer and resistance leader.

Skies of Fire: The Battle of the Philippine Sea.

19 June is the 170th day of the year - The Battle of the Philippine Sea (1944) was a major naval battle of World War II that eliminated the Imperial Japanese Navy's ability to conduct large-scale carrier actions. It took place during the United States' amphibious invasion of the Mariana Islands during the Pacific War and pitted elements of the United States Navy's Fifth Fleet against ships and aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Mobile Fleet and nearby island garrisons.. At 11:07, radar detected another, larger attack. This second wave consisted of 107 aircraft..The Yokosuka D4Y Suiseis (Comet) Navy Carrier dive bomber was operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Its Allied reporting name was Judy follows the lives of the men and women of firehouse station 19 in Seattle, Washington. - Purple heart, Saigon.

The American F 6F Hellcat fighter proved its worth, as its powerful engine generated superior speed, while its heavier armor and firepower made it rugged and deadly. Buarque came from an intellectually privileged family background— his father Sérgio Buarque de Holanda was a well-known historian, sociologist and journalist and his mother Maria Amélia Cesário Alvim was a painter and pianist, he also wrote a play named Calabar, about the Dutch invasion of Brazil in the se7enteenth century, drawing parallels with the military regime - Manchester United was formed in 1878 by the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath - Following the Brazilian military coup of 1964, Buarque avoided censorship by using cryptic analogies and wordplay. Despite limited use, the speed and the range of the D4Y were nevertheless valuable, and the type was used with success as reconnaissance aircraft as well as for kamikaze missions - In golf, the "19th hole" is the clubhouse bar.

LIFEBOAT (1944).
On the first day, the Japanese lost two aircraft carriers to American submarines: Shōkaku was torpedoed and sunk by Cavalla, while Taihō was sunk by USS Albacore.

In a massive coordinated sabotage operation, in preparation of Operation Bagration, 100,000 Soviet partisan guerrillas detonated over 10,000 explosions to the rear of German Army Group Centre positions. Supply and communications were rendered inoperable for days. Tens of thousands of explosive acts of sabotage are noted - Changsha fell to the Japanese in China.

Thank God, is it?.
The Great Marianas Turkey shoot.

MW 18014 was part of a series of vertical test launches made in June 1944 designed to gauge the rocket's behaviour in vacuum - Japanese aircraft carrier Hiyō was torpedoed and sunk by the USS Albacore, bringing total Japanese losses for the 2-day battle to 3 carriers, two oilers and around 600 aircraft. Hiyō was laid down on 30 November 1939 by Kawasaki on Slipway No. 4 at their shipyard in Kobe. She was yard number 660 and had the name Izumo Maru. The ship was purchased on 10 February 1941 by the Navy Ministry and she was temporarily referred to as No. 1002 Ship (Dai 1002 bankan) to keep her conversion secret. As a conversion from an ocean liner, it was not possible to add much armour. The ship's primary armament consisted of a dozen 12.7-centimetre (5 in) Type 89 dual-purpose guns in twin mounts on sponsons along the sides of the hull. A smaller Type 3, Mark 1, Model 3 early-warning radar was added in 1944. After a 3 day sea search for Admiral Omwa's carrier fleet it was 3:30 p.m. on June 20 when a spotter plane reported the enemy position to Admiral Mitscher's Task Force 58 - The SSEE system evolved from the AN/SSQ-80 Local Monitoring Subsystem (LMS) and the TRUMP system that provided the system with a basic cryptologic analysis capability - When you named me president, I was so proud, since I thought my hard work paid off.

Stanley Katz is an American exchange student who, upon becoming separated from his friends in a cavern, finds an unusual rock. British Minister of Production Oliver Lyttelton departed from the prepared text of a speech to the American Chamber of Commerce in London and stated,Japan "was provoked into attacking the Americans at Pearl Harbor. It is a travesty on history to ever say that America was forced into the war - The Soviets captured Viipuri on the Karelian Isthmus.Vyborg remained in Swedish hands until its capture in 1710 after the Siege of Vyborg by Tsar Peter the Great in the Great Northern War - He and his friend Rosie take it home and wash it, discovering it is actually an egg - As a result of the war, the population of the Karelian Isthmus has been almost completely replaced and was included into the Leningrad Oblast and people from other parts of the Soviet Union, mostly Russian, were settled here..A lot of youth summer camps were built all over the isthmus during the time of the Soviet Union. Western children also sometimes attended Soviet Young Pioneer camps, including children from Canada in the 1970s. Administratively, Leningrad Oblast is divided into se7enteen districts and one town of oblast significance. Signals intelligence operational platforms are employed by nations to collect signals intelligence, which is intelligence-gathering by interception of signals - David Earl Nelson (April 2018) was an American pro that played in Major League for the Cleveland Indians etc, while Bob recovered from heart surgery to repair an aortic valve.

Fletcher class destroyer USS Anthony, 24 inch searchlight ablaze is moving in to make the pick-up.

Everyone knows where American sympathies were. It is incorrect to say that America was ever truly neutral even before America came into the war on an all-out fighting basis - Nazi-subordinated Lithuanian Security Police carried out the Glinciszki massacre of 37 mostly Polish residents of the village of Glitiškės. Opponents of communism and the new regime were persecuted: an estimated 6,600 were imprisoned as "enemies of the people" and another 17,600 deported to Siberia - Captured Soviet POWs saw Schutzmannschaften as a way to avoid concentration camps. Such considerations attracted criminals and other opportunists. Most of them were young: in 1944, about half of Schutzmannschaften near Mir were under 25 years of age. In the massacre, at least 27 civilians were murdered, including 12 women (one in advanced stage of pregnancy, 11 children (as young as 3 years old), and 6 elderly men in reprisal for the death of 4 Lithuaniane Nazi policemen during a skirmish with the Polish resistance units - Transcontinental and Western Air Flight 277 was a C-54 Skymaster en route from Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, to Washington, D.C. The aircraft crashed on Fort Mountain, in Maine's Baxter State Park. All se7en on board died, including 6 civilian crewmembers and one US Army Air Force passenger. The aircraft's starboard wing struck a ridge of boulders at an elevation of 3,700 feet (1,100 m) on the mountain and the aircraft impacted the ground and was destroyed. North Brother is flanked to the northeast by Fort Mountain, and to the southwest by South Brother; collectively the two are called The Brother - As sensitive information is often encrypted, signals intelligence often involves the use of cryptanalysis. Cheryl auditioned for Walt Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club and was hired for the club's "Red Team", the most visible and popular of the Mouseketeers.

A Government poster informing soldiers about the G.I. Bill.

The battle is often referred to as the "Stalingrad of the East". Before the 161st Indian Brigade arrived, the only fighting troops in the Kohima area were the newly raised 1st Battalion, the Assam Regiment and a few platoons from the 3rd (Naga Hills). Battalion of the paramilitary Assam Rifles. The decisive factor was the Japanese lack of supplies - Japanese 68th and 116th divisions received their orders to attack the city of Hengyang and to take it within 2 days, which started the 48 days of siege and defense.

The Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, also known as the G.I. Bill, was a law that provided a range of benefits for returning World War II veterans (commonly referred to as G.I.s). It was passed by the 78th United States Congress and signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on 22 June 1944 - During the Battle of Kohima, the British and Indian forces had lost 4,064 men, dead, missing and wounded. Against this the Japanese had lost 5,764 battle casualties in the Kohima area, and many of the 31st Division subsequently died of disease or starvation, or took their own lives. Two Victoria Crosses were awarded for actions during the Battle.

Meanwhile, Sukuna had become Secretary for Fijian Affairs. In 1944, he reestablished the Native Regulations Board, later renamed the Fijian Affairs Board. Then in 1950, he was appointed as an advisor to the British delegation to the Fourth Committee at Lake Success. He said that while self-government was indeed the goal in the South Pacific, it would have to be of a kind that the local people could understand and work with. Sukuna has created a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1939 and awarded a knighthood in 1946, in recognition of his services to Fiji.
Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna - Inaugural Memorial Lecture.

On 23rd June 1944 at Mawaraka, Bougainville, in the Solomon Islands,Cpl. Sefanaia Sukanaivalu crawled forward to rescue some men wounded when their platoon was ambushed. After recovering two men this N.C.O.volunteered to go alone through heavy fire to try and rescue another - but on the way back was seriously wounded and fell to the ground unable to move further. Several unsuccessful attempts were made to rescue him; and realising that his men would not withdraw while he was still alive Cpl. Sukanaivalu raised himself up in front of the Japanese machine gun and was riddled with bullets. This brave Fiji soldier, after rescuing two wounded men with the greatest heroism and being gravely wounded himself, deliberately sacrificed his own life knowing that in no other way could his men be induced to retire from a situation in which they must have been annihilated. Sukanaivalu is buried at Rabaul (Bita Paka) War Cemetery, New Britain, Papua New Guinea - The Shinnston tornado was and is the only tornado to produce violent damage in West Virginia.

The Shan.

Shan woman from Lai-Hka, Shan State, after 1557, then inside Bayinnaung's empire.

In the middle of the 18th century, the Burmese Konbaung dynasty's reassertion of the easternmost boundaries of Burmese Shan States led to a war with China. The dynasty was heroically founded by a village chief, who later became known as Alaungpaya, in 1752 to challenge the Restored Hanthawaddy Kingdom which had just toppled the Taungoo dynasty -Shan, a variant of the Welsh given name usually spelled Siân. It means “God’s special gift”.
