Snake in The Eagle's Shadow

The movie that made the inimitable Jackie Chan a superstar overnight.

The plot is basically an evil master of the Eagle Claw style has dedicated himself to wiping out masters and students of the Snake Fist style :chuckle: Why? Because they can't exist together according to him.

The villain of the piece, the Eagle Claw master is played by Hwang Jang Lee, one of the best kickers in martial arts, as Chan himself would attest to, after losing a tooth to one of Lee's kicks during filming. You can see Chan's missing front tooth in the film at the end.

Eagle Claw Master

Chan plays a young man who is used as a dogsbody at a kung fu school, which is being run by the lazy and mean Teacher Lee, in the stead of the school's master who is away. Chan Helps an old man who he sees being attacked in the street by a bunch of thugs from another school, and they become friends. The old man taking pity on Chan and repaying him for helping against the thugs, teaches him a few kung fu moves, so that Chan can defend himself better against the bullies.
Anyway, it turns out the old man is the last master of the Snake Fist style! Chan becomes his student, and they end up fighting the Eagle Claw master.

It's a classic Chan film. Lots of comedy, as well as more serious bits. It's full of charm, I love it. I first saw it years ago on VHS.

The 36th Chamber of Shaolin aka Master Killer

Basic plot, there's a rebellion against the Manchu government, a student at a school gets drawn into it by his teacher, the student's family gets killed as the government crack down on the uprising, so he seeks vengeance.

Much of the film centres around the student San Te, training at the Shaolin temple, he has to train in, and pass the 35 chambers which have different disciplines etc. You would think that would be a bit boring but watching the young student, played by Gordon Liu, go from clueless weakling to Shaolin master is compelling viewing. It's oddly riveting :D He eventually creates a 36th chamber.

It is regarded as one of the greatest kung fu movies of all time.

Legend Of Drunken Master

Here is a scene from one of Jackie's best films, one of his best fights. He really shows off his physical genius.

He actually looks pissed :chuckle:
