I detest most commercial cigarettes. They stink and are acrid, when mixed with the scent of makeup and perfume i nearly want to retch. I confess that the scent of gauloise and gitaines and many turkish cigarettes smell ok. The tobacco was cured traditionally, not sure if this is still the case.

Now to the good stuff After several years of not using tobacco I recently took up the pipe and cigars again. I do not inhale, prefer the aroma thru the nostrils. I have two real calabashes, one is an estate pipe (means used) and was made in Africa - basically a dried gourd with a meerschaum insert which smoke very cool and dry, some cheaper pipes, and a few high end pipes - one hand made by a guy is USA named Mark Tinsky. Cant really afford top class cigars, though La Rica rich maduro are pretty good as long as you dont let them get too moist.

I think my cigar of choice is now the affordable Toscana Antico - made in Italy and aged for 12 months. In Italy they cut these 6" cigars in half but I prefer to smoke them whole. It is a thin cigar with a spicy aroma and lasts for 2 hours if you are not aggressive.

AS for pipe tobaccos I am still learning and also on how to pack a pipe to get the best result. I like virginias which are sweet and the Sam gowith Black twist is the nearest to a cigar tobacco that i have come across. I buy mine ready sliced but its original form is this. Recently learned that many tobaccos need to be dried b4 smoking to avoid pipe gurgle. Smoking a bowl of black twist now and dried it for several hours. It is reducing nicely into just ash , no moisture build up.
