Truth Zone Cookie Policy

What are 'cookies'?

'Cookies' are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. When you visit a website, that website is able to generate a small text-file which your browser then stores on your computer's hard drive. The next time you visit the same site, it will look for the text file on your machine and, if it finds it, will know that you've previously visited the site. The site may then act accordingly; it might welcome you personally, for instance, or it might change the colour of the home page if you expressed a preference for this on a previous visit. You can think of cookies as providing a "memory" for the website, enabling it to recognise a user and respond appropriately.

How does truth-zone.net use cookies?

truth-zone.net generates the following types of cookie:

Registration cookies or session cookie: when you register with us, for instance to sign up for an email service, we generate another cookie. Our servers use this cookie to work out if you're allowed access to a particular service. If the cookie's there, we let you in. If it's not, we don't, and ask you to sign in. If you click "Remember me" when you sign in, this cookie stays on your machine until you sign out. Otherwise, it gets deleted either when you close your browser, or when you shut down your computer. We need to use these cookies in order to allow you access to our services particularly for accessing members areas, forums, chat and Private Message systems. For example you can't send a Private Message to another member or post on the forums unless you are logged in! There are also some elements of our site which will not be visible to you, unless you are logged in such as forums and the user control panel for example.

We currently have a no advertising policy, but should that situation need to change in the future the following information would apply (01-05-2012).

Advertising cookies: sometimes we need to know whether or not you've seen an advert or a type of advert, and how long it is since you've seen it. For instance, we limit the number of "pop-ups" and other forms of intrusive advertising our users can see. In order to do this, we need to put a cookie on your machine when we show you some types of advertising. Again, this is completely anonymous.

Third party advertising cookies: quite a lot of the advertisements you see on truth-zone.net are generated by third parties. Some of these third parties generate their own "anonymous cookies", for the same reasons truth-zone.net does: to track how many people have seen a particular ad, and to track how many people have seen it more than once. Again, it's important to stress that this cookie cannot be used to identify an individual; it can only be used for statistical purposes. It's also worth pointing out that the companies that generate these cookies have their own, very strict, privacy policies. And finally, we should point out that truth-zone.net has no access to these cookies; other than allowing them to be served (as most other sites do), we have no role to play in these cookies at all.

How do you turn cookies off?

First of all, we should say that if you do turn cookies off you might find odd things happening when you try to use our services. You won't be able to use any registration services on truth-zone.net , for instance. And you'll start seeing a lot more pop-ups and intrusive advertising, as we are unable to limit what you see using cookies.

All modern browsers allow you to change your cookie settings. In Internet Explorer, go to the Tools Menu, then go to Internet Options, then go to Privacy. Here you can change the rules your browser uses to accept cookies; the options are Block all cookies; High; Medium High, Medium, Low and Accept All Cookies. Anything from Medium High down will enable truth-zone.net cookies. A setting of High or Block all Cookies will stop truth-zone.net setting cookies on your computer.

If you use FireFox you can install cookie management plug-ins which will give you full control of the cookie entering your system or that are already stored on your hard drive. Search with your favorite search engine for firefox cookie plug-ins or cookie managers.

We are unable to offer instructions here for all browsers, as they differ slightly in their approach to cookie management. To find out how to turn cookies off on your browser, please consult the Help option on your browser. This is usually the far right option on your browsers toolbar.

If you're only worried about "third party" cookies generated by advertisers, you can just turn these off by going to the third party's website and getting them to generate a one-time "no thanks" cookie, which will stop any further cookies being served to your machine. You can search with google or yahoo etc. to find the major advertising bodies who submit these types of cookies.
