He was a key member of the U.S. Labor Party until becoming a Democrat in 1979. He opposed several components of Barack Obama's health care bill in 2009. He was famously called "the man the dope lobby fears most". Was a neo-Marxist whose anti-imperialism underpinned his own eponymous movement which places human industry as the supreme value. Surprisingly he courted African American and Jewish civil rights campaigners despite being embroiled in a bitter dispute with the ADL who he accused of drug-trafficking.
He intensely disliked Henry Kissinger, the British royals (especially the Queen who he thought was a drug pusher), Malthusians and anyone connected to conservation which he equated with Third World genocide.
Convicted of fraud, he served five years in prison from 1989 to 1994. Of course his conviction for fraud was a Crown operation designed to destroy him!
