Putin. China's Puppet?

Why should Putin and Russia see the Ukraine as a threat needing to be attacked. Because they might join NATO? I have never heard of NATO forces being arrayed for anything but defense. What is so threatening about that. On the other hand, Russia was once conquered by orientals. The Mongols. They ruled Russia for around 400 years. And now there is China. A country that they share a long border with. And whom they haven't always gotten along with. China has well over a billion people. They could send an unarmed army against Russia and simply wait for them to run out of bullets and barely put a dent in China's population. And somehow Putin sees the Ukraine as a threat? He is either extremely stupid or a willing puppet of China.
